Noel Harrison

The Mike Douglas Show (1965 - 1973)

Noel Harrison made regular appearances on America's Mike Douglas Show and even co-hosted some episodes.

His first appearance on the talk show was on May 5, 1965 alongside actor Howard Keel.

In October 1972, he co-hosted the show as part of a week which saw the children of famous stars feature as guests. Other co-hosts during the week included Frank Sinatra Jr and Dean Martin's daughter, Gail.

Some episodes from the series have been released on DVD, but unfortunately, the ones with Noel in have not.

So far, only one episode featuring Noel has appeared as a bootleg DVD.

February 2, 1970

The only episode of the Mike Douglas Show featuring Noel Harrison which has appeared on bootleg DVD to date is the episode from February 2, 1970.

The other guests on the programme included boxer Muhammad Ali, singer Mamma Cass Elliot and comedian Rodney Dangerfield.

During the programme, Noel performed two songs and discussed his life and career.

Tin Wedding

The first song Noel performed on the February 2 show was Tin Wedding. Noel had copyrighted the song a month earlier and it was released as a single in April 1970.

The song was not included on an album at the time and it was the last single Noel released for the Reprise record label.

Tin Wedding is now available on the compilation Life is a Dream.

Interview

After Noel's performance of Tin Wedding, he was interviewed by Mike Douglas.

The two spoke about Noel's career to date and he set out his desire to move away from performing to concentrate on writing - explaining that he had written 15 or 16 songs at that point.

Noel also explained how he got a black eye after being hit in a bar the night before.

He also discussed making the film Take a Girl Like You in 1969 and said he had not heard anything about it since filming finished. The film would eventually be released in December 1970.

In My Time

Noel's second performance on the programme was his self-written song In My Time.

In My Time was never officially released and the only other known performance of the number was on the TV show Playboy After Dark in April 1970.

The song had been copyrighted by Noel in January 1970, the same time as Tin Wedding.
