The Ed Sullivan Show (1960-1966)

Noel Harrison appeared on the Ed Sullivan show three times between 1960 and 1966.

A selection of live recordings of Noel's appearances on the programme were released on the show's official YouTube channel in 2023, including his version of Bob Dylan's Mr Tambourine Man.

January 3. 1960

In one of his earliest American TV appearances, Noel was a guest on the Ed Sullivan Show on January 3, 1960, when he was just 26-years-old.

On the show, Noel sang songs called I'm On My Way and Yellow Bird. No recordings of these performances have yet been released.

Other guests on the programme that night included Bobby Darin and Connie Francis.

Despite its age, good quality footage of the episode is known to exist as the Ed Sullivan Show YouTube channel has released videos of Bobby Darin and Connie Francis from that night.

Padam, Padam

Noel returned to the Ed Sullivan Show on June 26, 1960 when the guest star was opera singer and actress Rise Stevens (the two are pictured together here in a publicity shot).

The only performance of Noel's released from the show to date is an audio recording of his version of the French song Padam, Padam.

The song was originally released by Edith Piaf in 1951. Noel's version is sung half in English and half in French.

It is known that good quality footage of the episode does exist, as the Ed Sullivan Show YouTube channel has released two videos of Rise Stevens from that date.

Mr Tambourine Man

Noel's final appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show was on November 13, 1966, when he sang the Bob Dylan song Mr Tambourine Man, which Noel had recorded for his 1966 album Noel Harrison. He also performed the music-hall song, Don't Dilly Dally on the Way.

This recording of Mr Tambourine Man is the only remaining live version of Noel singing the song from the time.

The music hall song, Don't Dilly Dally on the Way originally dates from 1919.
